Restoring DB also restores site

I am new to SharePoint. I recently added a DB from a PROD backup, to a web app. On restoring the DB, a site was added automatically, although I still had to deploy the solution for the site to work. If anyone could help me understand how SharePoint was able to add the site from the DB.
