FeatureActivated event not firing Visual Web Part

I have a Sharepoint 2013 visual web part(farm) and I want it to be added programmatically to a created page. I found some code snipplets online that let me do that, and I found out I have to put them in the Feature Event Receivers FeatureActivated method.

When I'm debugging the program, I added some breakpoints in the event receiver, but none of them are fired.

What am I doing wrong?

I right-clicked on the Feature item in the project explorer and clicked on Add Event Receiver
