New-SPWOPIBinding results in "The server did not respond."

1. I created the web apps farm from the OWA 2013 server:

New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl "http://ift.tt/1AG126S" -ExternalUrl "http://ift.tt/1CEPJve" -EditingEnabled

   When I go to the Sharepoint 2013 server and enter the URL "https ://office1.mydomain.local/hosting/discovery", I am able to successfully see XML code (although I do initially get a "your connection is not private" certificate-related message).

   I then go to the Sharepoint 2013 server and enter the following:

   
   

New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName office1.mydomain.local

...and I get the error WARNING: The server did not respond. Trying again...

I have seen this error in many posts but I have yet to find a fix for my own situation. Could someone tell me specifically where I might find a LOG file which would give me a clue??? I've been stuck at this point for 24 hours.

I have a feeling this is related to a certificate error; however, I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this.
