We have a couple of subsites in our site collection that have an identity of their own. The users of these subsites don't always know (or care!) that it is a subsite and we don't want to "pop them out of their world" as it were by redirecting them to the top level site collection.
When there is a 404 page not found event they are redirected to the top level of the site collection.
I found this tutorial on how to set a custom page. I'm specifically trying to us option 3 -- settting a custom vti_filenotfoundpage property using SharePoint Designer. But it doesn't seem to be working.
My custom page isn't in the 15 Hive (whatever that is) it is /mysubsite/Pages/customerrorpage.aspx. I tried both /Pages/customerrorpage.aspx and https://sitecollection/mysubsite/Pages/customerrorpage.aspx. Neither worked.
Does that mean I can only store my custom error page in /_layouts/15?
It says relative address, relative to what?
Any tips on setting up subsite specific custom error pages?
