Column Lookup only will not return numerical values

I am attempting to link two lists within a Sharepoint site. On the list being referenced, I have values stored a numbers. However, when I do lookup from the second list, it only returns the values as text. Is there a way for the column lookup to retain the formatting of the original list? (right now, when it exports the number, it shows up as a text, but has a decimal point with 5 zeros after it).
