Community Site Moderation - List View Threshold

I have an OOTB community site with the "allow reporting of offensive content" option turned on.

Despite having no reports, the moderation view is now erroring out with the ubiquitous list view threshold exceeded.

As this is an OOTB feature does anyone know if there is a patch which fixes this, or any workarounds I can apply in the interim (other than changing the overall threshold on the farm).
