Unable to export a list of item in Excel 2007 but able to export in Excel 2013

I have a document library in SharePoint 2013 with about 14000 items and the threshold is 5000. When I try to export the items into Excel 2013, I am able to export the items successfully but when I try to export to Excel 2007 I get the following error message.

The document library mainly contains acrobat documents and has about 30 metadata columns and 12 indices.

I have tried the following solutions.

1. Create a new new view to check if the view is corrupt.


2. Limit the total number of items returned by the view to below threshold.


3. Create an iquery manually

None of the solutions have been successful. I have also seen the thread over here Error - while exporting a Sharepoint List (Export to Excel) and it has not helped.

Things point to Excel 2007. Am I on the right track? Is it a known issue? Is there a fix?
