What causes this error message in Windows Explorer?

One of our SharePoint users (SharePoint 2010) gets an intermittent error message on one of our subsites when opening up a document library in Windows Explorer. Sometimes she can open it up fine and add new documents, other times she will get an error message.

For example, she has just navigated to a sub-folder and added some documents. When she navigated upwards to the parent folder, the error reappeared. When pressing ok the window then closes.

The error window shows:

*"(doc library url) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Access Denied. Before opening files in this location, you must first add the web site to your trusted sites list, browse to the website, and select the option to login automatically."*

She has full access permissions for the subsite, and can use the site as normal in the browser. It is just this intermittent error using Windows Explorer which is a problem.
